Kurt Vonnegut: YA Author

True, the category didn't exist when he began his career, but Vonnegut always insisted that it was young people who were his intended audience. To wit:
Well, I've worried some about, you know, why write books ... why are we teaching people to write books when presidents and senators do not read them, and generals do not read them. And it's been the university experience that taught me that there is a very good reason, that you catch people before they become generals and presidents and so forth and you poison their minds with ... humanity, and however you want to poison their minds, it's presumably to encourage them to make a better world.

Chinese Boy Sees Perfectly in Darkness- Bonus- Horrid 80s Music Video

Reading this story brought back an '80s memory: the hilariously lame Bonnie Tyler video "Total Eclipse of the Heart." If you haven't seen it since the eighties it bears another look. There are dancing ninjas. Bonnie Tyler wants to do stuff with young boys and takes a run at some football players. Then the glowing eyed choir boys arrive and one of the flies toward her as if possessed by a demon. There's a food fight, dancing gansters, a fencing dude with whose face-guard turns out to be full of yellow liquid. Good stuff. Oh, but back to the seeing in the dark boy:

A CAT-BOY has stunned medics with his ability to SEE in pitch black with eyes that GLOW in the dark.
Doctors have studied Nong Youhui’s amazing eyesight since his dad took him to hospital in Dahua, southern China, concerned over his bright blue eyes.

Dad Ling said: "They told me he would grow out of it and that his eyes would stop glowing and turn black like most Chinese people but they never did."

Medical tests conducted in complete darkness show Youhui can read perfectly without any light and sees as clearly as most people do during the day.

Experts believe he was born with a rare condition called leukodermia which has left his eyes with less protective pigment and more sensitive to light.
Another pressing question: How did anyone watch that video and keep a straight face?
